First Day, Introduction to the brief.

As of the first day of the course, I have been assigned the first project: to examine the nature of visual structure. We have to think about how structure can be formed and broken using code.

The first part of assignment is an exercise in algorithmic thinking. In the studio today I spent most of my time thinking about patterns that engaged the mind and were also visually pleasing. I started thinking about patterns that children's Kaleidoscopes make. I thought the way the mirrors within the kaleidoscope make such simple objects into complex, colorful, symmetrical patterns was very interesting. I wanted to focus on using simple shapes and lines to make intricate symmetrical patterns.

Above are some images that inspired me. Although i like colourful kaleidoscopic pictures, i prefer it when the colour is more subtle. I feel that colour can sometimes over power the beauty of the structured lines within the pattern.
